The SCOTUS decision on Citizens United diluted individual influence and aggravated the inequity of our already distorted election system. The general public, hard to organize into action groups of common purpose on a good day, now has to face the media influence amplifier, saturation level ads, sold out media pundits, artfully crafted propaganda crusades and mind bending assaults on the foundation of our democracy, our freedom, our security and our science.
The attacks are from every direction imaginable: Corporate denial of reality about risks of fracking and market instability induced by under regulated finance houses. Suspension of elected government and replacement with appointed civic managers, having broad financial control over public worker contracts and public property. Theocratic fueled assassins, whipped into believing ideology is more valued than human life and pointed toward political opponents. Neo-Fascist power brokers plotting government takeover, by funding campaigns for puppet politicians and flooding opposition with concocted character exposes. And, bald faced revisionist politicians confusing the public with phony issues, intentionally precipitating financial crises and blocking effective social action, that would address critical public policy deficiencies.
It’s like being trapped in a freak show.
