Immigration has always been a story with two faces

Being a 2nd generation Italian who was born in Youngstown, OH, I came into a world of cultural diversity. To the people who formed the economy and social structure of this Steel workers town, each of the neighborhoods was alive with the music, dance, food, dress and stories that immigrants brought with them when they came. Their customs were pulled out & refined as they found work, passed on as they raised families and provided to the broader community as a gift, while their social heritage took a place in the immediate history of their new home.

There was always, of course, the haters and demonizers who saw their opportunities to pit these cultures against each other, to control minds and profit from the power and money that comes from promoting fear and selling false security at the expense of freedom, brotherhood and equality.
