The GOP use bills they work on as a vehicle to promote social division. It dovetails into their campaign strategy of Divide & Conquer. Major bills moving their way through Congress are loaded with amendments that attack social measures against Public Media, Planned Parenthood, Public Education, National Endowment for the Arts, the EPA, Social Security, Medicare, Climate Science, Labor Unions, Public Service Workers or the IRS. The list is long and designed to rip apart the social fabric of common purpose that binds us together as a united Nation.
Every time the GOP want something, they trot out one of these targets, attach them to bills going through the legislative process, demand they be included as a condition of passage, negotiate concessions to take them out & ‘give in’ when they get what they want. These same issues come up whenever concessions are required.
Democrats might consider a few ‘nonnegotiable principles’ of their own. They could include ideology like; a Minimum Corporate Tax, Variable Upper Tax brackets based on a distribution of wealth index, absolute separation of Church and State, Nationalized Healthcare, Power & Water Services and a mandatory 3 year Draft for Public Service. We need something that can be used as an equivalent negotiating position, or we are at a permanent disadvantage.
